Process for Evaluating and Rating Candidates
The AAIDD Bylaws description of key qualities characterizing Fellows implicitly defines the categories of contributions that merit this recognition, and truly outstanding accomplishments within even a single identified area should be sufficient for positive action. The process of evaluating candidates for Fellow status includes:
Step 1. Determine if the candidate meets eligibility criteria relevant to his or her participation in
AAIDD.
(a) Seven years or more of continuous active membership?

Step 2. If a candidate is eligible based on positive responses in Step 1, the merit of his or her
contributions to the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities should be evaluated with respect to the following categories:

To receive a positive recommendation, candidates for Fellow Status must receive committee member aggregate means for at least one of the following ratings categories:
- A mean for the highest rated single category equal to or greater than 4.5;
- A mean total for the three highest rated categories equal to or greater than 10.5;
A mean total for all 9 categories equal to or greater than 27.0.
