Throughout North America, AAIDD's members automatically become members of the Chapter and Region in which they hold their national membership. Ten Regions cover most of North America and each state/province typically has a Chapter organization. You can participate in these organizations by attending their meetings, educational programs and annual meeting.

You can get involved and serve in a leadership capacity as a committee member, chairperson, or even be elected to their board of directors or an officer of the chapter or region. Chapters and Regional organizations provide members with an additional opportunity to be a leader in the mental retardation and developmental disabilities field while serving the association
