Speakers:

Stacy Yusim, Training Manager at Equip for Equality
Stacy Yusim joined Equip for Equality in 2002 as the Training Institute Manager. Her responsibilities include planning and managing the policies, strategies and program content of the Training Institute for Disability Rights. Ms. Yusim has a MA degree in Human Performance & Training from Governors State University. Her experience includes over twenty years creating, managing and evaluating training programs for people with disabilities.

Tia Nelis, Self-Advocacy Specialist at Rehabilitation Research and Training Center, Institute of Disability and Human Development, University of Illinois at Chicago.
Tia was the past chairperson of the National Organization Self-Advocates Becoming Empowered. She founded People First of Illinois and has successfully promoted People First. Ms. Nelis has served as president of People First of Illinois and Naperville. She was honored with the Burton Blatt Award by the Illinois TASH and the Elizabeth Boggs award from AARR. Ms. Nelis has wide experience conducting training and advocating for progressive polices with legislators and public officials.


Webinar Description:

People with disabilities will learn about advanced health directives including:

  • What are advanced health care directives
  • How the importance of everyday choices relates to advanced health care directives
  • Why creating an advanced health care directive is another way to be a self-advocate
  • The different kinds of forms available
  • The different ways to create their own advanced directives
  • Examples of what detailed choices other people have made
  • Using a process to start thinking about the supports and the people they would want involved
  • Access to a lawyer to help make the directive legal
