Sara Genevieve Sasnett, MS, received the 2012 Service Award today at the 136th annual meeting of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD).
The AAIDD Service Award is given for contributions to improving service to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Ms. Sasnett currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer of St. John’s Community Services (SJCS), where she has been a driving force in creating a culture of inclusion for individuals with disabilities. One of Ms. Sasnett most notable contributions to the disability field has been spearheading the conversion of SJCS from a segregated, center-based organization to a 100% community-based service model in four states. Ms. Sasnett has been an unwavering champion for the employment of individuals with disabilities by establishing the first supported employment services in the District of Columbia for individuals with severe disabilities.
Founded in 1876, AAIDD is the oldest professional society concerned with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
