The Environmental Health Initiative has been working on producing a series of journal articles adapted from the popular Research and Science Teleconference series to raise awareness about the connection between toxic exposures and learning and developing disabilities. The articles are currently under development or waiting acceptance from the publisher.
One of the articles targets children's health in schools and has been submitted to the AAIDD Journal IDD. The manuscript addresses common neurotoxic exposures and ways advocates such as parents, teachers, and other community members can reduce these exposures. Citation coming soon.
Another article addresses environmental contaminants and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Citation coming soon.
The third article is an opinion piece on the Learning and Developmental Disability Initiative's Policy Consensus Statement and Scientific Consensus Statement. This article is being coauthored by Steven Gilbert, a primary writer of the two statements, and the current Directors of the EHI. Citation coming soon.
Another article explores the relationship between the community with intellectual & developmental disabilites and the Environmental Justice movement.
Lastly, a fourth article is on In-Home Toxic Exposures and the Community of Individuals Who Are Developmentally Disabled, and was adapted from the Allison Del Bene Davis, RN, teleconference held in 2008. Citation coming soon.
